Tembyr is in a closed beta. This is a working draft written for the people testing it, not the final version. It will be replaced before Tembyr opens to the public.

What we collect

When you create an account and use Tembyr, we store:

  • Your name, email address, phone number, username and, if you give it, your date of birth
  • Your profile: photo, banner, city, province, postal code, occupation, biography, services and interests
  • What you post: stories, comments, listings, questions, answers, service requests, proposals, reviews and messages, and any photos attached to them
  • Who you have connected with, and the contact details you choose to share with them
  • Feedback you send us, with the page you were on, your browser, and any screenshot you attach

We also count how often professional profiles are viewed, without recording who viewed them.

Who can see it

  • Professional profiles are public, including to people who are not signed in.
  • A member’s profile is visible only to professionals they have asked to connect with or are connected to.
  • Messages are visible only to the people in the conversation. Tembyr’s staff tools give no access to them, with one exception: if you report a message you received, a copy of that one message goes to our team with your report. Nothing else in the conversation does.
  • Your email address and phone number are not shown on your profile. Someone you are talking to can ask for them, and they are shared only if you approve, and only with that person.
  • Service requests are shown to professionals who offer the services you asked for.
  • Questions, answers, stories, comments, listings and reviews are visible to other members.

Tembyr staff can see posted content and accounts so that they can remove content that breaks the rules and suspend accounts that misuse the service. When you report someone, we keep the report, your reason and a copy of what you reported, so that it can be reviewed even if the post is later deleted. The person you report is never told who reported them. The people who operate the database can access stored data when they are maintaining it.

Where it is kept

Your account, profile, posts, messages and photos are stored in Canada, in a database and file store run by Supabase in Montréal. Some of the services Tembyr relies on are in the United States:

  • Vercel runs the website. Its servers are in the United States, so everything you view or send on Tembyr — including messages — passes through them on its way to and from the database in Canada. Vercel keeps short-lived logs of the requests made to the site, but not what you post.
  • SendGrid (Twilio) delivers our emails, such as confirming your address and resetting your password. It receives your email address and the email we send you.
  • Sentry records technical details when something on the site breaks: what failed, on which page, and in which browser. It is set up not to receive your IP address, your cookies or anything you typed into a form.

Information handled in the United States is subject to US law and may be accessed by authorities there. Each of these services processes it only to provide its service to Tembyr.

During the beta

Accounts and content created during the beta may be removed before Tembyr opens to the public. No payment details are collected.

Removing your data

You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Account. That removes your profile and everything you have posted. Messages you sent stay in the other person’s conversation with their text removed, so their side still reads. A report someone made about your account is kept, without your details, so that abuse cannot be erased by leaving.
